but let’s be honest i will never get over or forget the golden globes 2011
The first images of Jesse Eisenberg and Noah Taylor in a film adaptation of Dostoevsky’s The Double, directed by Richard Ayoade.
Very intriguing, but painfully hip as well. I wonder how Ayoade will translate the feeling of utter helplessness of the protagonist on screen.
Now You See Me is a loose re-telling of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Ariel is a young mermaid who wants to see what life is like above sea level. Upon talking to Scuttle, she, her best friend Flounder, and her father King Triton’s advisor, Sebastian, decide to take a sojourn near dry land. She immediately sets eyes on Prince Eric, a handsome human magician who entertains cruise ship patrons with card tricks and other sleights-of-hand. It is easy for her to fall in love. But, how will Ariel ever get to meet him?
-
Ulysses, the Warlock of the Sea, gets wind of Ariel’s longing, so he sends his two eel partners in crime, Flotsam and Jetsam, to make Ariel visit him since he will have to means to give her what she wants. When she visits, Ariel and Ulysses make a deal: he will give her three days to find and give “true love’s kiss” to Prince Eric in exchange for her voice - she will become mute and must rely on other means of communication. If she fails, she will transform back into a mermaid and belong to Ulysses for the rest of her life. Will Ariel succeed?
-
Ariel becomes close with Prince Eric, but even after three days, they did not share “true love’s kiss” since Flotsam and Jetsam got in their way. As was promised in the deal, Ulysses transforms her back into a mermaid. But, he kept a secret from her! Little did she know that he was planning to usurp the throne from King Triton! In order to prevent Ariel from communicating and protecting her father, Ulysses kidnapped her and placed her in a tank, chaining her arms and legs to the tank itself.
-
By the help of Scuttle, Prince Eric learns of the disastrous situation. In a departure from the original story, with all his strength and all his might, Eric dives down under the sea to save the human-turned-mermaid. He is intially thwarted by Flotsam and Jetsam, but by using his sleight-of-hand capabilities, he is able to free himself from the handcuffs on his wrist and instead trap them! He eventually kills Ulysses, dutifully restores King Triton to his throne, and saves Ariel. At that point, Prince Eric realizes his love for Ariel and asks her hand in marriage. Realizing that Ariel’s feelings are mutual, King Triton transforms his daughter into a human once more, making she and Eric free to marry and live happily ever after.
